Source of the official prices: the "tickets and prices" page of the Palace of Versailles' official site (2026 rates), read on 19 October 2026. Under-18s, and EU residents under 26, enter free but must book a free ticket. Paris Museum Pass holders take a free Passport.
What the Passport really gives you
According to the official site, the Passport is the reference ticket: it opens the château, the Trianon Estate, the Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon, the Queen's Hamlet, the temporary exhibitions in those places and the gardens, including on Musical Fountains and Musical Gardens days. Only the château visit needs a timed slot: you enter within half an hour after the slot you chose. The rest of the estate can be explored freely. Tickets are neither refundable nor exchangeable.

The official site also offers a cheaper late-day Passport, with château entry from 3 pm (low season) or 4 pm (high season), and a Trianon Estate ticket at €15 valid all year. Hours change with the season and Monday is a closing day: for full hours, see our Palace of Versailles page.
Resold tickets: what to watch
A resold offer can be handy if the official site has no slot on your date, but it does not change the visit: same rooms, same security check. The "from" price shown on a platform is the cheapest category, not necessarily the full rate, and it does not tell you whether the château is included or at what time. Before paying, compare the total, the date, the château entry time and what is included with the official Passport. The best-selling Versailles offer in France on GetYourGuide is the full-access palace and gardens ticket: check on the listing that the château is included for the slot you want.
When a day trip is useful
- You want a guide who explains. The château is a stage set: without commentary, the Hall of Mirrors is just a beautiful room.
- You don't want to manage the journey. The day trip includes transport (coach, or the RER C with the guide). On your own, take the RER C to Versailles-Château-Rive-Gauche.
- The official site is sold out. An operator who booked slots in advance may still have some.
- You travel with several people. The small group of 8 makes getting around easier.

Pitfalls
- The château slot. No slot, no entry to the château, even with a Passport.
- High season. From April to October the gardens are paid; from November to March they are free for everyone.
- Late slots. You cannot see the whole château if last access is close.
- Monday. Closed: plan nothing that day.
- By car. Access to the park by the Queen's Gate costs €12 per vehicle.
Our advice
Independent and comfortable with public transport: the official Passport, preferably early in the morning or late in the day. First visit, children, little time or the official site sold out: the day trip with guide and transport, after comparing its total with the Passport's.
