What we know about the Enfants Rouges fire
According to the press (franceinfo, 12 October 2026), the fire broke out during the night from Sunday 11 to Monday 12 October. Firefighters were alerted around 4am and about 150 of them responded. Close to 1,000 m² were destroyed, the metal structure is badly weakened and the fire did not spread to the neighbouring building. No casualties were reported. The cause was still unknown.
As of 13 October 2026 we found no reopening date and no relocation site for the traders confirmed by an official source. Treat the market as closed until further notice. The Marché des Enfants Rouges page carries the update.
Saint-Quentin covered market (10th)
The closest in spirit to the Enfants Rouges: a covered hall with fresh produce stalls and food to eat on the go. Address: 85 bis boulevard de Magenta (10th). Open Tuesday to Saturday 8am-8pm and Sunday 8am-1:30pm, closed Monday (City of Paris). Metro: Gare de l'Est, right by the station.
Aligre and Beauvau markets (12th)
On place d'Aligre, a covered hall (the Beauvau market) and an open-air market sit side by side, with flea-market stalls as well. It is closed on Monday. Hours vary by source and by day, so go in the morning, especially on Sunday. Metro: Ledru-Rollin. More details on the Aligre market page.
Saint-Germain covered market (6th)
At 4/6 rue Lobineau, a short walk from Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Open Tuesday to Saturday 8am-8pm, Sunday 8am-1:30pm, closed Monday. Metro: Mabillon (Saint-Germain-des-Prés is close too). A good choice to add to a day of sightseeing on the Left Bank.
Saint-Martin covered market (10th)
At 31/33 rue du Château d'Eau. Open Tuesday to Saturday 9am-8pm and Sunday 9am-2pm, closed Monday. Metro: Château d'Eau. A smaller hall, handy if you are staying near the Canal Saint-Martin or the Grands Boulevards.
Bastille market and the Batignolles organic market
The Bastille market is open-air on boulevard Richard-Lenoir (11th), between rue Amelot and rue Saint-Sabin, on Thursday and Sunday mornings; closing times differ by source (1:30pm to 3pm), so arrive before noon. The Batignolles organic market takes place on Saturday on boulevard des Batignolles (17th), metro Rome; hours again differ by source, so morning is the safe choice.
Eating in the Marais anyway
The district is still lively. On rue des Rosiers (4th) you will find falafel, pastries and Jewish-cuisine restaurants; rue de Bretagne, where the market stood, still has restaurants, bakeries and shops that were not inside the market, though you should check they are open on the spot. To plan your stops, see our Le Marais page and the complete Marais guide. For takeaway food, the guide to picnicking in Paris lists addresses.
A Marais food tour to replace the market
If you planned the market to taste the neighbourhood's food, a guided walking food tour of the Marais is the most complete replacement: several tastings in about 3 hours, in a small group. You can book online through the partner link below; compare reviews and cancellation terms on each page.
