Kosher in the Marais

The historic Jewish quarter, around rue des Rosiers and rue des Écouffes (4th), concentrates falafel stands, bakeries and kosher restaurants. Many close from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening for Shabbat. For other meal ideas in the area, see our page on the Marais and the comparison of food tours in Paris. None of the guides consulted gave a reliable list of kosher restaurants: ask for the certification (Beth Din) on the spot.
How to check halal
- Ask for the certificate from the certifying body: a "halal" sign does not prove it.
- Confirm the absence of alcohol if it matters to you.
- During Ramadan, many restaurants offer a fast-breaking menu (iftar), to book.
- Avoid tourist traps: see our tourist traps in Paris restaurants and the page on the Grande Mosquée de Paris.
