Hailing a taxi on the street in Paris works a little differently than in other major cities: most taxis you'll see driving by are already occupied, shown by their roof light lit up in red. The more reliable option is to book through a dispatch center or head to a taxi rank, easy to find near train stations and along major streets.
Booking ahead
You can book a taxi for a specific date and time through the main dispatch centers: Taxis G7 (3607), Taxis Bleus (3609) or Alpha Taxis (01 45 85 85 85). A phone booking may carry an extra charge on top of the fare.
Tips
As a rough guide, expect a pickup fee of around €2.60, then €1 to €1.50 per kilometer depending on the time of day, with a minimum fare around €7. Extra charges can apply for waiting time and for more than four passengers. Fixed fares also exist between Paris and the Île-de-France airports, generally cheaper from the Right Bank than from the Left Bank. These amounts change from time to time, so always confirm the fare before getting in. Not every driver accepts card payment, so it's worth carrying a bit of cash just in case.
