Which train to choose

Eurostar at Gare du Nord

Option Duration Indicative price (one way) Who for
Direct Eurostar 3h15 to 3h35 from 35 euros (Standard), about 37 euros in Plus Most travellers
Via Brussels (connection) 4h to over 6h variable, sometimes cheaper Travellers flexible on timing
Plane 1h20 flight, 4h door to door variable Not recommended: longer and more polluting

The direct train is almost always the best choice: city centre to city centre, with no connection and none of the airport checks. The price varies strongly with the date and day; Standard fares are the cheapest but less flexible than Plus.

Stations, times and frequency

The departure is from Gare du Nord (Paris 10th) and the arrival at Amsterdam Centraal, in the heart of the city. Allow for about 16 trains a day in total, 8 to 10 of them direct; times change with the seasons and engineering works. Arrive 45 minutes before departure for the check; in some cases the border check is done before boarding. If you are sleeping near the station, see our hotels near Gare du Nord and our guide to Paris stations.

Tips to pay less

  • Book as soon as sales open (often 4 to 6 months ahead).
  • Choose midday trains and Sunday mornings.
  • Compare Standard and Plus: Plus includes a meal and more flexibility.
  • Avoid resellers: buy on the Eurostar website or an approved app.
