Wall of Love (Mur des je t'aime): square Jehan-Rictus, access and hours
The Wall of Love (Mur des je t'aime) is a fresco of enamelled lava tiles on which "I love you" is written in more than 250 languages, in the square Jehan-Rictus at 14 place des Abbesses (18th arrondissement). As of 7 October 2026, the City of Paris states that the wall is inaccessible for safety reasons, while the square remains open. Check the City's page before you come: you may only see the wall from a distance, or not at all.
Highlights

The Wall of Love
The work, created in 2000 by calligrapher Frédéric Baron and artist Claire Kito, is made of about 612 enamelled lava tiles on which "I love you" appears 311 times. Red splashes evoke the fragments of a broken heart.

A restored work
According to the City of Paris, the square was redesigned in 2024, with the wall restored and the paths reorganised.

The square Jehan-Rictus
The square has a playground, drinking fountains and a book-exchange box. It is free and can be reached from place des Abbesses, rue La Vieuville or passage des Abbesses.

Entry to the square is free. At present the wall is reported as inaccessible for safety reasons: check the City of Paris page before planning the detour. The square is wheelchair accessible. Continue to the Montmartre hill and the Sacré-Cœur, a few minutes' walk away.
How to get there
