Updated on October 30, 2026

The Musée vivant du fromage (Living Cheese Museum) is at 39 rue Saint-Louis en l'Île (4th arrondissement), on the Île Saint-Louis. The visit runs in four stages: the culture of cheese, its history, cheese being made in front of you in an on-site dairy, and a tasting of four cheeses with a cheesemaker. A full-price ticket costs 20 €.

Highlights

Cheese-making live

Cheese-making live

A dairy and cheese workshop sits inside the museum, so you watch cheese being made in front of you, which sets this place apart from a traditional museum.

The four-cheese tasting

The four-cheese tasting

The visit ends with a tasting guided by a cheesemaker. A glass of wine can be added for 5 €.

The educational route

The route starts with cheese culture and history, with interactive areas, before the section on how cheese is made.

The cheese shop and gift shop

The museum also has a traditional cheese shop and a souvenir shop, handy for buying cheese to take home after the tasting.
