Oberkampf and Ménilmontant in Paris: bars, gigs and nights out in east Paris's liveliest quarter
Rue Oberkampf and its neighbours rue Jean-Pierre-Timbaud and rue Parmentier make up one of the liveliest going-out areas of east Paris (11th and 20th arrondissements): bars, cafés, restaurants, concert halls and clubs within a walkable perimeter. Free to enter, but people come mostly from 6 pm for an aperitif; plan an evening. We do not list drink prices here; they vary from bar to bar.
Highlights

Rue Oberkampf
A string of bars and terraces; Café Charbon (109 rue Oberkampf) is an institution there, in a former 19th-century café (sources give 1863 or 1900 as its date).

Gigs and rooftop
Nouveau Casino, at 109 rue Oberkampf, is a well-known concert and club venue; further up, Le Perchoir Ménilmontant (14 rue Crespin du Gast) has a rooftop terrace over the Paris roofs.
