Who is it for?
Luxury trip or special occasion. The avenue, the Christmas lights and the department stores are on foot. First stay on a middle budget. The area costs more than the Marais or Bastille: compare with our Paris hotels by budget and the hotels near the Louvre.
Transport, noise, safety
Charles de Gaulle-Étoile links lines 1, 2, 6 and RER A; line 1 runs to the Louvre without changing. The avenue is busy by day and calmer on the side streets where the hotels are. The area is well patrolled and busy, but pickpockets target tourists near the Arc de Triomphe and the shops.
How to pay less
Sleep in the 17th or the 9th, a few metro stops away, or near the Gare de Lyon: see the hotels near Gare de Lyon. Palace rates drop in low season.
Which hotel to choose?
- A luxury stay with a spa: the Fouquet's Barrière.
- More intimate, near the Arc: the Hôtel Vernet.
- A palace a few streets away: the Royal Monceau, if budget is no concern.
