Which area?
The most practical is the centre, between Versailles-Château-Rive-Gauche station and the palace, on foot. The Notre-Dame district is quieter and about ten minutes' walk from the palace. For the visit, see our Palace of Versailles page and the guide Versailles ticket: official or excursion.
Versailles or Paris?
Sleeping in Paris stays cheaper in low season and more practical for other visits; see our guide visiting Versailles from Paris and where to stay in Paris. Sleeping in Versailles is worth it mainly if you come for the palace, the gardens and the fountain shows, or for an evening visit.
