Hours and free entry
The cemetery is free, open every day from 8:00 on weekdays, 8:30 on Saturday and 9:00 on Sunday, until 18:00, then 17:30 from 6 November. A free map is available at each entrance. The ground is hilly and cobbled in places: wear good shoes.
Guide or free walk?
The cemetery has 97 divisions and thousands of graves: a guide tells the stories behind the names and saves you from searching. One traveller found 3 hours long on foot; if you prefer less, a 2-hour small-group tour exists. Otherwise, follow our Père-Lachaise itinerary and our cemetery page.
