How to get there from Paris

  • By train: from Paris Saint-Lazare, most trains run direct to Trouville-Deauville in about 2 h 10 to 2 h 15; some need a change at Lisieux. The lowest fares for summer Friday evenings go fast: book early on SNCF Connect.
  • By car: about 200 km on the A13 toll motorway, a little over 2 hours without traffic. The Sunday-evening drive back to Paris is often congested.
  • Getting around: everything is walkable between the station, the harbour, the boardwalk and Trouville. You only need a car for Honfleur or the countryside.

The 2-day plan

Day 1: Deauville

  • Morning: arrive, coffee by the harbour, then Les Planches: the wooden boardwalk runs along the beach, past beach cabins named after American actors who came to the festival.
  • Lunch: around the market square, among the half-timbered villas.
  • Afternoon: the beach, a walk through the streets of Norman villas, then the Barrière casino if you want to play or simply see the building.
  • Evening: dinner in Deauville, or cross back to Trouville over the Pont des Belges.

Day 2: Trouville and the coast

  • Morning: the Trouville fish market on the quay, where you can eat seafood standing up or on a terrace.
  • Late morning: walk along Trouville beach to Les Roches Noires, the former grand hotel where Marguerite Duras lived.
  • Afternoon: with a car, Villerville then Honfleur along the coast road (about 15 km). Without one, stay in Trouville: it is a good town for a slow afternoon.
  • Back: Sunday-evening train from Trouville-Deauville.

Six hotels by budget

Prices vary a lot between a November weekend and an August one: compare all hotels in Deauville and in Trouville before booking.

When to go

  • April to June and September: the best balance of weather and price.
  • July-August: beach life and buzz, but the highest prices and full trains.
  • Early September: the American Film Festival fills Deauville's hotels.
  • Winter: lower prices and empty beaches; Trouville stays lively, some Deauville venues cut their hours.
