Licence-Free Electric Boat in Paris: Where to Rent, Prices and Duration

Updated on October 26, 2026

In Paris, licence-free electric boats are rented on the Bassin de la Villette and the Ourcq canal (19th), not on the Seine. According to the sources consulted in October 2026, the operator AKWA has offered 25 fully electric boats there since April 2025, at around 45 euros an hour for four people; another operator, Marin d'Eau Douce, lists 5-person boats from 45 euros (1 hour) to 110 euros (3 hours). No licence is needed on these canals. Prices, opening dates and even each operator's presence should be confirmed before you come.

Highlights

The Bassin de la Villette

The Bassin de la Villette

The largest stretch of open water on Paris's canals, lined with quays, cinemas and terraces: the best place to steer gently.

The Ourcq canal

The Ourcq canal

Quieter, it lets you extend the trip along the water, between tree-lined quays and footbridges.

Lac Daumesnil, the other option

In the Bois de Vincennes you can rent rowing boats (13 euros an hour for 1 or 2 people, 14 euros for 3 or 4, 20 euro deposit, per an older listing), but no electric boats: see the Bois de Vincennes.

Practical info

Tips

  • Book online for a weekend or a summer evening: slots go quickly. Compare the two operators on hourly price, number of seats and the deadline to return the boat. For one hour with four people, expect about 11 euros each, more than most group cruises but with freedom of route. If you would rather not steer, the cruise from the Canal Saint-Martin to the Seine is the best alternative; see the Canal Saint-Martin and the Parc de la Villette. AKWA offers reductions for residents of the 19th, students and jobseekers (proof required). We found no licence-free electric boat rental on the Seine in Paris.

How to get there

Metro Stalingrad (lines 2, 5 and 7) or Jaurès (lines 2, 5 and 7bis) for the Bassin de la Villette, 19th.

Opening hours

Best: Weekdays, May to September
Depends on the operator and season, generally midday to evening from March to October; confirm online
