Paris Carnival: no edition in 2026, and the parades to see instead (Tropical Carnival)

Updated on October 25, 2026

The Paris Carnival, the Mardi Gras parade, did not take place in 2026: its president announced there would be no more editions, for lack of human and financial resources, and the City of Paris did not include it in its 2026 agenda of carnivals and parades. The big free parade to see instead is the Paris Tropical Carnival, which was held on Sunday 5 July 2026 on the Champs-Élysées in the afternoon (from 13:00 to 17:00 according to one site, from 12:00 to 18:00 according to another). No 2027 edition has been announced to our knowledge (October 2026). Do not confuse it with the Carnavalet museum, which has nothing to do with it.

Highlights

The Paris Tropical Carnival

The Paris Tropical Carnival

A free parade of Caribbean, Guianese and Reunionese groups in costume on the Champs-Élysées (photo of the 2014 edition). The route varies by source: from the Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe, or from the Arc de Triomphe to the Concorde.

The Chinese New Year parade

Another big street parade of the year in Paris, early in the year; check the date of the current edition before coming.

Practical info

Tips

  • To know what is parading right now, check the Paris agenda of carnivals and parades on paris.fr, which did not list the Paris Carnival in 2026. Other events to try: the Chinese New Year, the Pride march and the 14 July parade. If it was the museum you were looking for, see the page on the Carnavalet museum. For another festive moment, an evening cruise on the Seine is a good replacement for a missing parade.

How to get there

Champs-Élysées, 75008 Paris. Metro Charles de Gaulle–Étoile (lines 1, 2, 6), Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1, 9) or Champs-Élysées–Clemenceau (lines 1, 13). The streets on the route are closed to traffic on the day of the parade.

Opening hours

No date announced for 2027 (October 2026); Tropical Carnival 2026: Sunday 5 July, afternoon
