Chapelle expiatoire in Paris: opening hours, ticket price, visit and access
The Chapelle expiatoire, in the square Louis XVI (8th arrondissement), is open Wednesday to Saturday in winter (Tuesday to Saturday from April to September); the ticket costs €7, free for under-26s, and online booking is possible but not required. Allow 30 to 45 minutes. This neoclassical monument, built under the Restoration, pays tribute to Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, who were first buried on this site in 1793. It is one of the quietest visits in central Paris.
Highlights

The chapel and the Campo Santo
The domed building, built between 1815 and 1826 to plans by Pierre Fontaine, stands at the end of a garden surrounded by arcaded galleries. The site was the former Madeleine cemetery, where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were buried.

Louis XVI supported by an angel
This marble group by François-Joseph Bosio shows the king with an angel pointing him towards heaven. It stands in the upper chapel, facing the queen's group.

Marie-Antoinette supported by Religion
Jean-Pierre Cortot's group shows the queen supported by Religion, who holds a cross. The crypt below recalls the place of their first burial.
