Seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in 2026: room 711, tickets, hours and tips to avoid the crowd
The Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre, Denon wing, first floor, room 711 (Salle des États), behind glass, facing Veronese's Wedding Feast at Cana. There is no separate ticket: you need the museum entry ticket, 22 € for residents of the European Economic Area and 32 € for other visitors (price seen in September 2026). The museum is open 9:00 to 18:00, closed on Tuesday, with late opening until 21:00 on Wednesday and Friday. The painting measures about 77 cm by 53: smaller than most people expect, which is why arriving early pays off.
Highlights

Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa
The portrait is in room 711, protected by glass; you view it behind a barrier, in a queue. The room also holds Veronese's Wedding Feast at Cana, right opposite, which most visitors forget to look at.

The Winged Victory of Samothrace
It dominates the Daru staircase in the Denon wing, on the way to room 711: the ideal pause before the Mona Lisa crowd.

The pyramid and the entrance
The main entrance is through the pyramid, where you go through a security check; a timed-entry ticket saves you the queue of those who have not booked.

Tips
- Ticket only or guided tour? The ticket alone (22 € or 32 €) is enough if you go straight to room 711 with the museum map. A guided tour is worth it for a first visit: the most booked on GetYourGuide, "Mona Lisa and Louvre masterpieces, reserved access", costs from 59 € (4.6 out of 5, 7,995 reviews, seen in October 2026); compare them in our guide to guided tours of the Louvre. To avoid the crowd: come at 9:00, or at the Wednesday and Friday late opening, often calmer; mid-day is the busiest. During the works, the Louvre published a recommended route in April 2026 that changes the access to room 711 from the Sully wing: follow the signs of the day. The museum has announced a room dedicated to the Mona Lisa by 2031, without a separate ticket. All prices, hours and closing days are in our page on the Louvre museum.
