Strasbourg and Colmar from Paris: train, journey time, price and is it worth a day trip?
Strasbourg is about 1h46 from Paris by direct TGV INOUI from Gare de l'Est; OUIGO Grande Vitesse generally takes 2 to 2.5 hours, with tickets from €16. A comparison site gives an average price of about €49 each way and return trips of €64 to €71 seen for August and October 2026. Colmar continues by regional TER train from Strasbourg (journey time to check on SNCF Connect, not recorded here). Both cities in one day is possible but very full: better to do Strasbourg in a day, or stay overnight to add Colmar.
Highlights

Strasbourg: Petite France and the cathedral
Half-timbered houses by the water, covered bridges and the great Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral; allow a full day to see them on foot.

Colmar: Little Venice
A district of canals and colourful half-timbered houses, smaller than Strasbourg and very photogenic; the town takes 3 to 4 hours.

Tips
- For a day trip from Paris, take one of the first morning TGVs and the last evening train back, and keep Strasbourg alone. For both cities, sleep a night in Strasbourg or Colmar. Strasbourg's Christmas markets (late November to late December) draw crowds: book train and accommodation very early. For other rail trip ideas, see our weekend ideas from Paris by train and the list of Paris train stations. A guided excursion with transport can replace the train if you prefer to arrange nothing.
