The criteria that really matter
A tired child will not walk twenty minutes. Keep four criteria in mind:
- The lift for the pushchair and suitcases; specify it in your search.
- Beds: many double rooms have no space for an extra bed. Ask in writing for the bed layout and a confirmed cot.
- Air conditioning for summer: check, as many older hotels have none.
- RER or metro within five minutes, with at most one change for the major sights.
Latin Quarter and Luxembourg: the classic
Around the Latin Quarter, the Luxembourg Garden is a few minutes away: a basin for toy sailboats, a puppet theatre, playgrounds. RER B and RER C serve the area, which makes it handy from Roissy airport. Rooms are compact; look for a family room or an aparthotel. See also our Latin Quarter guide.
Le Marais, Bastille and Nation: central or affordable

The Marais has the Place des Vosges and its arcades, ideal for running around and an afternoon snack. Further east, Bastille and Nation are generally cheaper and very well connected; the Promenade plantée offers a traffic-free walk. Our Bastille guide gives the area's landmarks.
The 15th and La Villette: calm and parks
The 15th arrondissement is residential, with squares, local shops and the Eiffel Tower a few stops away. For science-loving kids, sleeping near the Cité des sciences and the Parc de la Villette avoids long journeys on the day of the visit. In the west, the Jardin d'Acclimatation is easy to reach from Auteuil or Porte Maillot; see also our Jardin d'Acclimatation guide.
Family hotel or aparthotel?
A two-room aparthotel saves you renting two hotel rooms, offers a kitchen for bottles and simple meals, and a washing machine. For a short stay, a hotel family room with breakfast remains simpler. Everything is detailed in hotel or aparthotel in Paris.
Tourist tax and transport with children
Adults pay the tourist tax; minors are exempt in Paris but still count in the number of guests used to set the nightly rate (source: taxedesejour.paris.fr, October 2026). On public transport, children under 4 travel free in Île-de-France and those aged 4 to 9 get reduced fares on tickets (source: Île-de-France Mobilités, October 2026). Our guide to the metro and RER in Paris explains the tickets.
Frequently asked questions
Which area is calmest? The 7th, the 15th and the upper Latin Quarter, away from the bars.
Should we stay near Disneyland Paris? Only if Disneyland is the heart of the trip; otherwise stay in Paris and take RER A. See Disneyland Paris: crowds and tickets.
Is a hotel with breakfast better? Often yes with young children: no hunting for a café at wake-up time.
