How it works and what to do
- Rules: notice must be filed at least five days ahead and staff must declare themselves on strike 48 hours in advance, which is why the transport plan appears the day before.
- Your trip: check SNCF Connect and the Transilien app on the evening of the 4th; favour an early-morning train or the day before the strike, and allow a margin for airports (From the airport to central Paris).
- In Paris: on a strike day a Seine cruise or a walking visit from the centre avoids depending on trains; more on the day in Strike on 5 November 2026 in Paris.
Refunds and rights
A TGV INOUI or Intercités ticket can be exchanged or refunded free of charge when SNCF applies exceptional measures, but the refund is not always automatic: cancel the trip in your customer account. For a trip with a TER connection, check each train separately. Keep your booking confirmations. For a flight, see the European rules on cancelled flights in our air traffic control strike page.
What to do safely during the transport strike
Here is a plan B to keep your trip going without taking risks.
- Outing that does not depend on the strike: Versailles with transport, organised trip with transport included, no train or bus to book yourself.
- Airport transfer: transfer from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, no train, metro or bus to catch.
- Calm hotel, free cancellation: hotels in Montmartre, quiet area, refundable if your plans change.
