Au Lapin Agile in Montmartre: Song Cabaret, Price, Times and Booking
Au Lapin Agile, at 22 rue des Saules (18th arrondissement), is the French-song cabaret of Montmartre where Picasso, Modigliani and Apollinaire used to gather. The show starts around 9pm and lasts about two hours, with no microphone or amplification, in a small room; a ticket costs around €35 with a drink (Paris je t'aime listing, to be confirmed). Book ahead: the room is small and fills up quickly at weekends.
Highlights

The pink house on rue des Saules
The cabaret occupies a small house at the end of rue des Saules, facing one of the last vineyards of Montmartre. The sign of a rabbit jumping out of a saucepan comes from a drawing by André Gill, hence the name "lapin à Gill".

The song show
An evening of French songs and poems, where the audience sometimes sings along. You drink a glass (often cherries in brandy or wine) by the light of low lamps.
An artists' haunt
In the early 20th century painters and poets such as Picasso, who painted "Au Lapin Agile" in 1905, Modigliani and Apollinaire frequented the house. Several guided Montmartre walks stop outside for a photo.
Practical info
Tips
- Book on the cabaret's website or by phone, especially on Friday and Saturday. Opening days vary between sources (Tuesday to Saturday, some exclude Wednesday): confirm before you go. A student price of about €25 exists for under-26s, except on Saturdays and public holidays (same source, to be confirmed). The show is in French: the songs are easy to follow even if you do not speak the language. Mind the steep streets on the way back late at night.
