Coulée verte René-Dumont

Updated on September 13, 2026

Originally known as the "Promenade Plantée," the Coulée Verte René-Dumont is a park located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Created by landscape architect Jacques Vergely and architect Philippe Mathieux, the Coulée Verte opened in 1993. The Coulée Verte has one distinctive feature: it's linear, following the route of the old Vincennes railway line. The park stretches 4.5 km, from Place de la Bastille to the ring road (boulevard périphérique), passing by the Viaduc des Arts along the way.

For the more athletic among you, the second part of the route includes a bike path. The vegetation here is surprisingly varied, and many joggers choose to run here early in the morning.

The Viaduc des Arts

The Viaduc des Arts

The Viaduc des Arts brings together a variety of arts and crafts workshops inside Paris's old viaduct, built in 1859 — a site that the city of Paris decided to restore in 1990 by renovating the viaduct's arches.

The Promenade

Sometimes elevated, sometimes underground, the Coulée Verte is a genuine breath of fresh air, far from the bustle and pollution of Paris. Along the way you'll pass all kinds of plants — rose bushes as well as lime trees, hazel trees, and cherry trees.
