Which area, for whom?
Going out at night. Around the square and rue de la Roquette, bars close late: pick a courtyard-facing room. Calm and market. The 12th near the Marché d'Aligre is quieter. Couples and walks. The Coulée verte René-Dumont and the Marais are on foot.
Transport, noise, safety
Lines 1, 5 and 8 serve the square; line 1 runs to the Louvre and the Champs-Élysées without changing. Lively nights make the streets noisy at weekends. The area is busy until late; as everywhere in Paris, watch your bags in crowds.
Which hotel to choose?
- Small budget: the Hôtel Royal Bastille or the Hotel Lyon Bastille.
- Comfort and relative calm: the Classics Hotel and its garden.
- Evenings at the Opéra Bastille: the Hôtel Paris Bastille, right opposite.
- A charming stay: the Hôtel du Petit Moulin, on the Marais side.
