Fête de la Musique in Paris: date, programme and free concerts
Fête de la Musique takes place every year on 21 June: all over Paris, amateur and professional musicians play for free in the streets, on squares, in courtyards and in gardens. Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture, it has since spread to all five continents. The next edition falls on Monday 21 June 2027; the 2026 edition took place on Sunday 21 June 2026.
Highlights

Concerts everywhere, no ticket needed
Rock, jazz, choirs, brass bands, DJ sets: streets, squares, café terraces and courtyards turn into stages. Entry is free and the performers, amateur and professional alike, play late into the evening.

Historic courtyards and gardens
Concerts are also held in heritage settings, like this one at the Palais-Royal in 2015. The programme changes with every edition.

A French idea that went global
Launched in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture, Fête de la Musique is now celebrated on all five continents. Concert organisers can register on the official website.
Practical info
Tips
The programme changes every year: check the official Fête de la Musique website and the City of Paris website a few days before 21 June. Pick two or three neighbouring districts rather than crossing the whole city, and keep your belongings close in the crowd.
How to get there
There is no single venue: concerts take place all over Paris, in the street, in parks, courtyards and cafés. Walk, take the metro or use a Vélib' bike; check the RATP website for evening service times, as driving is impractical on busy streets. The coordinates on this page point to the Hôtel de Ville, simply as a central reference point.
