Galette or crêpe?

The galette is savoury: ham, cheese and egg (the "complète"), sausage, mushrooms or salmon. The crêpe is sweet: butter and sugar, chocolate, salted butter caramel or Grand Marnier. Order a galette as a main and a crêpe for dessert, with a dry or sweet cider.

Which crêperie for your stay

  • A real Breton meal: a crêperie on rue du Montparnasse, with wooden tables and cider in a bowl.
  • A reference address: Breizh Café, in the Marais.
  • A break during a walk: a street crêpe on place du Tertre or on rue Mouffetard (rue Mouffetard).
  • Learn while having fun: a workshop or food tour that includes a crêpe, such as some Montmartre food tours.

Booking and avoiding traps

Book evenings and weekends for sit-down crêperies. Avoid crêperies with photo menus near the big monuments, where the batter is sometimes careless; a Breton crêperie states its flours and ciders. See also our advice on tourist traps in restaurants.
