Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots: prices, history and which to choose

Updated on October 25, 2026

The Café de Flore (172 boulevard Saint-Germain) and Les Deux Magots (6 place Saint-Germain-des-Prés) are two neighbouring cafés in the 6th arrondissement, about a hundred metres apart. Both are linked to the post-war years, to Sartre and Beauvoir (especially the Flore) and to writers and artists. They open every day from the morning, and people come for the setting and the terrace more than for the cup. The cheapest way is to come in the morning for a breakfast set.

Highlights

The Café de Flore

Tips

  • Which one? Les Deux Magots has the airiest terrace facing the church and a clear €14 breakfast set; the Flore is smaller, noisier and more of a "stage". For the bill, read the menu before ordering: a coffee, a juice and a pastry quickly make €20. For more affordable places, read our best cafés in Paris and our Saint-Germain-des-Prés guide.

How to get there

Metro Saint-Germain-des-Prés (line 4), then a few steps; the Flore is at 172 boulevard Saint-Germain, the Deux Magots at 6 place Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Opening hours

Best: Weekday mornings
Daily, about 7:30 to 1:30 (Flore); from 7:30 for the Deux Magots (hours to confirm on site)
