Saint-Sulpice Church: Delacroix, Gnomon, Great Organ, Opening Hours and Access
Saint-Sulpice church, on the square of the same name in the 6th arrondissement, is open every day from 8am to 7:45pm, with free admission. It is the second largest church in Paris after Notre-Dame. Inside are frescoes by Eugène Delacroix, an 18th-century gnomon and a renowned great organ. It remains an active place of worship, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Highlights

The façade and the square
Facing the Fountain of the Four Bishops, the two-storey colonnaded façade gives the church a classical look. It overlooks a lively square lined with cafés.

Delacroix's Chapel of the Holy Angels
Eugène Delacroix painted "Heliodorus Driven from the Temple" and "Jacob Wrestling with the Angel" here, along with a ceiling devoted to Saint Michael. The paintings were completed in 1861.

The gnomon
This 18th-century astronomical instrument crosses the transept: a ray of light falls on the brass meridian line and climbs a marble obelisk. It was used, among other things, to fix the date of Easter.

The great organ
The great organ has five keyboards and 102 stops. Its case dates from 1781, and the instrument was reworked by Cavaillé-Coll and then Mutin. It is listed as a historic monument.
