Jardin des Plantes in Paris: Hours, Greenhouses, Menagerie, Prices and Getting There
The Jardin des Plantes (5th arrondissement) is a free botanical garden, open daily: 7:30 to 20:00 from April to September, 8:00 to 18:30 in March and October, 8:00 to 17:30 from November to February (hours to confirm on the official website). Entry to the garden is free; the Great Greenhouses, the menagerie and the museum galleries are paid. Allow 2 to 3 hours for the garden and greenhouses, half a day with the menagerie or the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution.
Highlights

The Great Greenhouses
Nineteenth-century glass houses sheltering tropical forests and desert plants; entry is paid, and whether they have reopened after the summer 2026 heatwave closure should be checked.

The menagerie
One of the oldest zoos in the world, founded in 1794, with red pandas, monkeys and reptiles. Price noted without a precise date: about 13 euros, 10 euros reduced.

The greenhouses in winter
The garden is pleasant out of season: the greenhouses, the rose garden and the plane-tree avenues can be visited all year.

Tips
- The garden itself is free, everything else is paid separately: the menagerie costs about 13 euros (reduced 10, free under 3, undated price, to verify) and the Great Greenhouses about 7 euros (older price). In July 2026 the greenhouses and menagerie closed during the heatwave; check that they are open before you come. As of 25 October 2026 we found no official confirmation that the menagerie has reopened; an exhibition, "Tropical Autumn", is announced in the Great Greenhouses from 15 October to 23 November 2026. The alpine garden closes from November to February. For the galleries, see our page on the Natural History Museum and the one on the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution.
