Maison Gainsbourg

In the seventh arrondissement, the Maison Gainsbourg opens 5 bis rue de Verneuil to the public, the house where Serge Gainsbourg lived until his death in 1991. Charlotte Gainsbourg kept it intact, together with the objects inside. Across the street, at number 14, the museum traces his life and career in eight chapters, with nearly 400 original objects: manuscripts, artworks, clothes and jewellery. The site opened on 20 September 2023.

The house at 5 bis

Visitors enter in pairs, wearing headphones, and walk through the two floors for about thirty minutes. The soundtrack, created by Soundwalk Collective, follows the voice of Charlotte Gainsbourg as she recalls her father and her childhood home. Photos and videos are not allowed inside.

The wall on rue de Verneuil

For decades, the singer’s admirers have covered the wall of the house with messages and drawings. You can see it from the street without a ticket. Its appearance keeps changing as new inscriptions appear.

Tips

Visits are only possible with a timed ticket bought online, including for children who enter free. The “House & Museum” ticket costs 32 € (16 € up to age 25 inclusive) and the “Museum only” ticket 12 € (6 € up to age 25 inclusive); entry is free up to age 6 inclusive (prices checked in September 2026). Arrive at 14 rue de Verneuil 10 minutes before your slot: if you are late, it is no longer guaranteed. The house is not wheelchair accessible, unlike the museum, and backpacks must be left in the cloakroom.
