Wine Museum

At the foot of the Passy hill, the Wine Museum occupies former limestone quarries that the Minim friars turned into wine cellars. Under stone vaults, more than 2,200 objects tell the story of vines and wine: winegrowers’ tools, presses, barrels, glasses and tableware. Scenes recreated with mannequins present the wine trades. The museum is in the sixteenth arrondissement, a few minutes from the Seine.

Highlights

The cellars and vineyard tools

The route follows vaulted galleries displaying winegrowers’ tools, jars and amphorae. Take time to look at the stone of the old quarries, which forms the setting of the visit.

Objects for serving wine

Corkscrews, glasses and table accessories show how wine is opened, served and tasted. These display cases complement the rooms devoted to cooperage and winemaking.

The entrance on square Charles-Dickens

Look for the wooden door topped by the inscription “Caveau des Échansons de France – Musée du Vin”. It opens onto the small square Charles-Dickens, at the bottom of rue des Eaux.

Tips

Buy your ticket from the museum’s online ticket office, which shows current prices. Under the same vaults, the restaurant Le M. serves lunch from Tuesday to Saturday, by reservation, and a jazz dinner on Friday evenings. Two-hour tasting courses take place on Fridays from 18:00 to 20:00 and on Saturdays from 15:00 to 17:00, by reservation.
