Rue des Martyrs: the food street between Notre-Dame-de-Lorette and Pigalle
The rue des Martyrs is a long sloping street climbing from Notre-Dame-de-Lorette towards Pigalle and Montmartre, on the border of the 9th and 18th arrondissements. It has around 200 shops and restaurants: bakeries, pastry shops, cheesemongers, wine shops and cafés. Its name recalls the martyrdom of Saint Denis, according to tradition, on the Montmartre hill. It is the ideal street for an afternoon of food shopping before heading up to the Sacré-Cœur.
