Père-Lachaise: the most famous
This is the cemetery to see if you only do one. Our Père-Lachaise itinerary gives the division numbers, and the guided tour page compares the offers.
Montmartre: artists and singers
The cemetery, tucked under the rue Caulaincourt bridge, holds Dalida (the most flower-covered grave), Jeanne Moreau, France Gall and Pierre Cardin, among others, according to the City of Paris list. See the Montmartre cemetery page. Émile Zola's monument stays there, but his remains were moved to the Panthéon in 1908.
Montparnasse: writers and thinkers
Montparnasse cemetery is quieter and gathers writers and artists: Baudelaire, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir (same grave), Serge Gainsbourg, Maupassant. Plans of the most requested graves can be downloaded from paris.fr; see the Montparnasse page.
Panthéon: the nation's great men and women
The crypt holds Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Alexandre Dumas, Marie Curie, Simone Veil and, since February 2024, Missak and Mélinée Manouchian. The dome panorama is closed in October 2026. Tickets are detailed in our page Panthéon: which offer, and the Panthéon page describes the visit.
