Fragonard Museum in Alfort: opening hours, prices, visit and how to get there from Paris
The Fragonard Museum at the Maisons-Alfort veterinary school is open on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm to 6pm; admission is €7 for visitors aged 26 and over (€6 reduced rate) and free for under-26s, with no booking needed for individual visitors (prices checked in October 2026). Founded in 1766, it is one of the oldest museums in France: animal anatomy, skeletons, teratology and the famous flayed figures by Honoré Fragonard. Allow about an hour.
Highlights

The Horseman of the Apocalypse
This écorché by Honoré Fragonard, made around 1766-1771, pairs a rider and his horse whose muscles and vessels have been prepared and preserved. The museum presents Fragonard's écorchés as national treasures.

Teratology and pathology
These collections show animals with malformations, such as this two-headed calf. Some pieces can be disturbing: the museum advises against visits by children younger than primary-school age.

A historic school building
The museum occupies the first floor of a historic building of the veterinary school, reached by a monumental staircase.
