Sources disagree on which is "best": it is a matter of taste, not an official ranking.
Which chocolate for which mood
- Very thick, almost a cream: Angelina. See our dedicated page on Angelina hot chocolate.
- Lighter, with the Saint-Germain atmosphere: Café de Flore, famous for its terrace.
- Not too sweet, for dark chocolate lovers: Jacques Genin.
Tips to avoid the queue
Queues are longer at weekends and on winter afternoons. Arrive at opening time, or on a weekday mid-morning. Many tea rooms also sell takeaway: ask at the counter. For other treat stops, see our guide to Paris tea rooms.
A tasting walk
A walking route around Saint-Germain mixing chocolate and pastry is a way to taste several local addresses with a guide. Check the stops and duration on the booking page.
